This home designed and built in 1979 by Architective II (now A Design Group) enjoyed a 16-page article in Veranda Magazine in the May 2001 issue. This project design was started by James Means who was a Designer in partnership with Neal Reid and Philip Schutze, historically Architects of many of the Buckhead mansions. In working with Jimmy Means, I learned his methods and means and soon became a willing protege' as related later to the next owner of this home, Jean Huff. After the untimely death at the age of 83 of James Means during the project’s preliminary design phase, the owners requested that we not only build but complete the design of their home since I was most familiar at that time with Mr. Means work. Attention to every detail was given to design and build this home as James Means, an icon in Buckhead’s history, would have designed it himself. He was noted for his special custom millwork. The millwork designs done by Jimmy Means with Jim Girdler in the millwork department of the old W.P. Stevens Lumber Company in Marietta, Georgia, were developed for use throughout the home. All millwork was custom and designed as Jimmy Means would have had it. Every attention to detail was in honor of the originator of the design.
A later garage addition was made by Norman Askin, a local Atlanta architect, and the landscape by Dan Martin....all under the direction of the new owner, Jean Huff, a talented decorator in the Atlanta area. We still retain the originial schematic drawings done by Jimmy Means on the beginning design of this home as well as our drawings completing the design.
